FUNCTIONAL 50 FOODS

We have a wonderful human machine that can function beautifully and is something most of us take for granted, until something goes wrong. A certain pain, a headache, an upset stomach, a feeling of fatigue or some other symptom catches our attention and reminds us that our machine uses fuel and demands maintenance.

To restore balance, we must open the communication lines and deliver tools and raw materials to power the repair to our cells. We need a healthy immune state. This starts with our legion of minions: our microbiome. Though I would suggest we are at times at their volition, hence our "gut feelings." We (and they) need nutritious food, whole foods, foods that we evolved around. We retained advantageous genes that are activated and manufacture proteins and run enzymes that make up our human tool belt.

OUR GUT MIGHT BE TELLING US SOMETHING POWERFUL

Our gut system or microbiome is an integral health manager and essential for keeping our body in balance. It communicates with the brain to signal the coordination of various organ systems which run our human machine. It only makes sense that food is part of that communication. The microbiome also allows us to digest food and handles the absorption of nutrients such as macronutrients (proteins, fats and carbohydrates) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, cofactors, phytonutrients). These are the activators, translators and conductors of our genes.

THE FOUR PILLARS OF WELLNESS

A Foundation For Health

DISEASE IS WELLNESS OUT OF BALANCE

With this imbalance there are typically root causes. Our focus should be aimed at the pillars of health and wellness and removing or modifying behaviors that affect these pillars and bring patients back to a state of wellness. We need to find the root cause and restore the balance to wellness. Wellness is supported by striving to embrace daily habits that aim towards these pillars.
